Built by Cessna during World War II, the Model T-50 was a civilian aircraft adapted to serve as a twin-engine trainer under the designation AT-17 and a cargo aircraft under the UC-78 designation. Typically called the "Bamboo Bomber" by its pilots, the T-50 proved to be a very successful aircraft, though most all of their postwar service was in civilian hands. Including all variants, more than five thousand T-50 airframes have been produced, and hundreds continue to fly today, mostly as civilian T-50 models.
